Happy Thanksgiving!

Nov. 20th 2015

With Thanksgiving upon us, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude to you – the members of the Fair Acres community – for all you do to support us in our efforts to impact children’s lives in a meaningful and lasting way each and every day. We couldn’t do it without you…thank you!

With giving thanks, giving back and making a difference in the community in mind, our students have invested their time in some very significant endeavors this month…

Ms. Judy and Ms. Tracy’s Pre K class leveraged their thoughtful and creative spirits in a collective effort to fashion an “I am Thankful” class quilt! Be sure to stop by to check out the quilt, which boasts so many of the children’s heartfelt sentiments.

The three-year-old classes collected cat food, toys, towels, and even made cat blankets for NESAA, a local animal shelter, to support the organization’s mission of rescuing and rehabilitating abandoned animals!  To learn more about the important work NESAA does, visit their website here.

As part of this project, the threes embarked on a “barn visit” with Ms. Jodi to deliver one of their handmade blankets to “Peaches,” the Fair Acres Farm cat, who was adopted from NESAA. Peaches was camera-shy, but as always, Amigo was happy to pose for us!

We are so impressed with all of our students’ kind and caring hearts…

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

November is National Family Literacy Month

Nov. 6th 2015

It is National Family Literacy Month!

National Family Literacy Month is celebrated across the U.S., and focuses on special activities and events that showcase the importance of family literacy programs. Schools, libraries, and other literacy organizations participate through read-a-thons, celebrity appearances (like “the man in the yellow hat” and Curious George!), book drives, and more. Keep an eye out for forthcoming information about our Book Fair, which will take place the week after Thanksgiving!

“When parents and children come together to learn, relationships among family members, neighbors and communities are all strengthened,” said Sharon Darling, president and founder of National Center for Families Learning. “Educators and families across the country invest time—from hours to moments everyday—to learn together and make real-world connections that make learning stick, and last a lifetime. As we take National Family Literacy Month to reflect on the many successes and breakthroughs we’ve experienced with families learning together over the years, it’s easy to see that learning two generations at a time is a critical, worthwhile investment.”
