News from the Fair Acres Farm

Dec. 21st 2015

While the children have been busy fostering friendships this year, so have the animals! “Amigo,” our resident Quarter Horse, has befriended “Peaches,” the barn cat. Here, it looks as though Amigo is relaying the details of his day, to his barn-mate…

And, it certainly didn’t take long for Peaches to decide upon a preferred cozy spot to nap – where better than in the midst of Amigo’s hay buffet?!

Amigo has enjoyed all of the apples and carrots the children have brought in for him this year – thank you!

And, the goats, Lola and Luna, have put on a few pounds this fall, due to their acorn intake (apparently, acorns are like a dessert of sorts for goats. Delicious!)…not to worry though — the extra weight will serve as a layer of warmth for the goats, once the winter weather arrives.

Fair Acres Kindergarten

Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make. In additional to our pre-k programs, we are so proud to offer an exceptional kindergarten, here at Fair Acres.

Because a child’s kindergarten experience is the first year of formal education, that experience is truly a vital part of preparing a child for success in first grade and beyond.

Our well-rounded kindergarten curriculum is based on the Massachusetts State Frameworks, which is used throughout the state in public kindergarten programs and is taught by a state licensed kindergarten teacher.

Though we follow the same frameworks, our full day program paired with the limited class size allows Fair Acres to go beyond the curriculum offered in a public school setting. The curriculum focus’ on phonemic awareness, phonics development, and writing skills as well as early math and science skills. The size of the class allows the teacher to give the children one-on-one attention while addressing the varied abilities in the classroom so that every child’s needs are met.

Here’s a look at some of the lessons integrated into our kindergarten curriculum this month: building sentences with word cards, a “giving” themed bulletin board project, engineering a structure with connectors, an introduction to addition play doh activity.

In tune with the Fair Acres philosophy, our kindergarten program promotes a strong belief in physical activity with a focus on team sports. Our kindergarten children will also be able to participate in field trips during the school year such as the annual trip to the Cape Cod Ballet’s performance of The Nutcracker.

In kindergarten, it is still very important for children to have time for free play which is often unavailable through a half day kindergarten program. Our full day program offers a structured morning program paired with a center-based afternoon that incorporates play into learning centers designed to encourage cognitive development.

Children graduating from our kindergarten typically have developed a strong sense of self-confidence and usually experience strong academic success. We’re proud to say that our Fair Acres Kindergarten graduates transition well into public and private first grade classrooms.

Our kindergarten teacher, Kara Roberts, invites you to visit the Kindergarten Program and welcomes any questions that you may have. We hope you will consider us when making your kindergarten decision. We are confident that if you choose to enroll your child in our program, they will graduate from Fair Acres with confidence, happiness and well prepared for first grade.
