End of the Year Celebration

Thursday, Jun. 17th 2010

We are in the home stretch of preparations for our end of the year celebration on Wed. June 23rd and the children could not be more excited! We have been practicing for months now and the classes have all their songs down pat. Our theme this year is Fair Acres Summer Luau. Performances will include the three year olds singing “Caribbean Amphibian,” “Octopus’s Garden,” the Pre-K singing “Catch A Wave,” and “Day-O,” and the Kindergarten acting out the Three Little Hawaiian Pigs! There will be many more songs and surprises throughout the night! We are really looking forward to this fun-filled night and hope you will be able to join us! Trolley service will begin at 5:30 to & from the parking area at West Villages Elementary school. We ask that all children are in the classrooms by 6:00 for a 6:30 show start time. This show wows the crowd every year and this year will not be any different! We hope you can all join us as we celebrate a great school year and congratulate our graduating kindergarteners as they receive their diplomas.

Learn to Skate Program

Monday, Feb. 1st 2010

We are half way through our learn to skate program with our Pre-K & Kindergarten students and we could not be more proud! After just two lessons, we are already set to give up holding on to the milk crates and skate all on our own. The children have progressed so quickly. We are really enjoying our ice time at the new Hyannis Youth Community Center! We have been fortunate enough to have many of our parents join us to help tie skates and/or come on the ice with us which has been so helpful and a special treat for all the children! We are all looking forward to tomorrow and will be sad that next week is our last trip to the rink. Check out our photos to see some of the fun!

Happy New Year!

Thursday, Jan. 7th 2010

Happy 2010 to everyone! We are off to a busy start at Fair Acres. We are getting ready for our learn to ice skate program with our Pre-K & Kindergarten students. For four Tuesdays we will be going by bus to the shiney new Hyannis Youth Community Center and learning how to ice skate! This is always a fun program and we love to watch how quickly they progress! We are also beginning Fall registration for the 2010-2011 school year beginning next week. Call today to schedule a tour…more information to follow! Finally, we began one of our afternoon enrichment programs yesterday. This class is called Art Explorations and is run by a local artist named Maureen Carven. Children who signed up for this special class will be exploring different art mediums through connected literature. Yesterday they began sculpting with clay and made little mice. The children all had so much fun and are looking forward to painting their mice once they come back from the kiln. Fair Acres offers several afternoon enrichment programs to students in a range of topics such as music, art, cooking, & book clubs.

Our classrooms have been learning about community helpers this month. To add to the excitement, we had a great visit with the C.O.M.M. Fire Department and with the Barnstable Police Department! Each of the departments spent time in the classrooms talking about their jobs as community helpers and then let the children go outside to explore the ambulance, fire truck, and police cars. It was so much fun!
