Fishing Boat Visit!
Yesterday the three year old classes had a special visit from a professional fisherman. One of our Fair Acres dads geneously gave his time to bring his boat for a visit. The children were able to explore the boat, see his equipment, and learn about being a fisherman. It was very exciting. At the end of the visit, the children were all given their own fishing pole to take home! What a special surprise!
Parent-Teacher Communication
Fair Acres is constantly striving to maintain strong communication between families and teachers. Here are some of the ways we are currently keeping in touch…
* Fair Acres Newsletter: A few editions are published each year to provide classroom updates, office news, upcoming events, etc. to Fair Acres families.
* Fair Acres Website: www.FairAcresCapeCod.com provides email communication, downloadable forms, school calendars, and photos.
* Parent Memo Boards: A parent memo board is provided by the door of each classroom. These boards display weekly curriculum, parent notices, classroom calendars, daily schedules, and sign up sheets for upcoming events or classroom visits.
* Weekly Curriculum: Teachers post their weekly curriculum on parent boards outside all classrooms to allow you to stay informed about what your child is currently learning.
* Daily Message Boards: Children and teachers recall the events of the day and list them on these dry erase boards located near the door of each classroom.
* Parent Notices: Notices from the teachers or office staff will be placed in your child’s art cubby to inform you about upcoming events. Please be sure to check this cubby daily.
* Informal Feedback at Drop Off & Pick Up Times: Teachers are often available for a quick chat about your child at these times. Please be advised that lengthy conversations during these times are not possible due to the teacher’s need to monitor the classroom.
* Progress Reports: Reports charting your child’s development will be given out in January and in June.
* Informal Notes/ Phone Calls Home: On occasion a phone call or note will be sent home by teachers (particularly if the teachers do not generally see you at pick up time) to inform you about an event, good or bad, that took place during the day.
* Parent Teacher Conferences: Teachers will provide four afternoons during the school year to discuss your child’s progress. An afternoon will be set aside when teachers will be available and parents may sign up for a 20 min. time slot. These conference times will take place in November, January, & June. As always, at the request of the parent or teacher(s), a conference can be scheduled at any time during the school year to address concerns.
* Phones: Parents can feel free to call Fair Acres (508-420-3288) at any time during the school day. If the teacher is unavailable they will be sure to return your phone call as soon as possible.
* Email: Parents can feel free to email Fair Acres (Attn: teacher’s name) at any time and the office will pass the message along to the appropriate classroom.
* Facebook: Fair Acres has recently joined Facebook. We will be posting announcements, weather related closings, and occasional classroom updates on Facebook. Be sure to “like” our page.

Winter Fun!
Cape Cod has recovered from the Blizzard and the children are all enjoying the results. It is a sunny, beautiful Valentine’s Day and we have been out playing in the snow. Our soccer fields are snow sprinkled with snowmen and giant snowballs. Here’s a look at our fun….
To our Fair Acres families,
In the wake of the recent Connecticut tragedy, Fair Acres would like to take a moment and thank each and every family for trusting us with your precious children. We appreciate their innocent, joyful smiles, their pure laughter, their sense of wonderment at the world, and their generous love. Please know that we would all protect them as our own. Fair Acres has safety protocol in place to deal with all kinds of emergencies. Although no one can guarantee against the evils of the world, we continue to believe that Fair Acres is a safe and nurturing school. We are deeply saddened for all of the families affected by this tragedy. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel comfortable speaking with any of our staff. Several resources are available in the office about dealing with children in a time of tragedy. To all of our families, we offer our support, compassion, and once again appreciation for sharing your children with us.

Happy Thanksgiving!!
Today we had a great day at Fair Acres. We celebrated Thanksgiving with our annual feast at school. The children have been busy preparing for the past week to cook side dishes for the feast as well as make costumes. The classes dressed as Native Americans & Pilgrims. The kindergarten also performed a small Thanksgiving skit for us before the feast. It was a great time.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of our Fair Acres families. We are thankful to have you all be a part of our Fair Acres family!
Happy Halloween!
Happy Halloween to all!
We are back to school today after missing 2 days of school due to Hurricane Sandy. Luckily the Cape was not hit too badly other than some flooding and many power outages. The children were all excited to be back at school and even more excited about trick-or-treating tonight!
A special thank you to all of the parents who were able to attend out school halloween party last Friday. We had so many fun games to play, special treats to eat, a festive hayride, and even an old fashioned apple cider press! It was such a spooktacular event and it would not be the same without the parent participation! We hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as we did.
It is hard to believe that tomorrow is the first day of November!
The 2012-2013 school year is off to a great start!
