Jumpstart’s “Read for the Record®”

Friday, Oct. 28th 2016

On October 27th, both Pre-K classes participated in Jumpstart’s “Read for the Record®” the world’s largest shared reading experience! Part of a national campaign that was launched over a decade ago, “Read for the Record®” addresses the educational inequities that leave many children unprepared for Kindergarten. As a part of this initiative, we gathered to learn, laugh, and read this year’s campaign book, The Bear Ate Your Sandwich, by Julia Sarcone-Roach.  After reading the story as a group, the children all made a special snack with whole wheat bread, sunflower butter, sliced bananas, and blueberries…

Looking for something to read with your family tonight? You can read The Bear Ate Your Sandwich together, here!

The Colors and Activities of Fall!

Friday, Sep. 30th 2016

Ever wonder why the leaves change color in the Fall? We turned to the Farmer’s Almanac to explore when exactly the change takes place, and how the process occurs…click here to find out for yourself!

At Fair Acres, one of our favorite Fall activities, is playing in the leaves!

What are your family’s favorite Fall activities?

If you’re looking for a fun family outing or craft to do in October, here are some suggestions…

  • Go on a cranberry bog tour;
  • Make a wreath;
  • Ride bikes along the canal;
  • Go to a fair;
  • Make a leaf rubbing;
  • Bake a pie;
  • Go apple picking;
  • Visit a corn maze;
  • Go for a nature hike;

Welcome Back!

Tuesday, Sep. 27th 2016

It is a great time of the year here at Fair Acres. We have successfully wrapped up another summer camp season where over 500 campers enjoyed some “good ol’ camp fun!”

We especially enjoy the summer time and working with our camp counselors who are second to none! Summer camp at Fair Acres is truly a continuation of the Fair Acres Country Day School philosophy of creating fun and learning in a nurturing environment.

Now that the transition from camp to school is complete, our team is focused on getting school off to a great start. Teacher orientation went extremely well, Labor Day open house was the perfect opportunity for our new students to visit their classrooms and our first few weeks have gone as planned. The children are adapting quite well and our incredible staff are exceeding all expectations!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your family for your continued support. We also encourage you to take full advantage of our “family friendly” environment. We believe that these are critical years for your child’s development and we are committed to providing your family with a positive experience that will last a lifetime!

2016 Summer Camp Memories

Thursday, Aug. 18th 2016

The tan lines will fade, but the memories won’t…

Ah, summer camp. The sun-drenched days filled with games, cheers and crafts, and the campfire nights of toasting marshmallows on the shores of Shubael Pond — not to mention skill-building, creating memories and bonding with friends children often keep forever. That’s what we call,”good ol’ camp fun!”

“Fair Acres has provided an amazing summer camp experience for our children. They count down the days until camp starts, and have only the best daily reports of their time at camp. The owners, staff, and camp counselors are absolutely wonderful. I feel so lucky to have this beautiful place so close to our home, and love that my children get to have an old fashioned, healthy, outdoor summer camp experience.” ~ Amy Powers

“It’s the best camp ever! I want to go forever and be a counselor when I get older!” ~ Olivia Powers, 2016 Viking

“Fair Acres is my favorite place ever! I love it so much! I love all the games we play and how the counselors play with us all the time.” Quinn Powers, 2016 Raider

“My favorite part of summer camp was making new friends and being around my counselors – they were so much fun. I love them!” ~ Haven Hill, 2016 Raider

“At camp, you have the chance to experience so many different activities and meet so many people. This summer I really improved my swimming and soccer skills.” ~ Colt Hill, 2016 Viking

“My favorite part of Fair Acres is hanging out with the counselors, they are fun, kind, always play, and help when you need it!” ~ Evey Abbo, 2016 Viking

“I love that it is such a friendly environment, no one is ever bored, their is always something going on or something to do!” ~ Maddy Perry, 2016 Bulldog, 8th year at Fair Acres

“My favorite part of Fair Acres is the big playground, because I love playing with friends on the train! I love to swim too, especially diving for rings!” ~ Fiona Woodbrey, 2016 Blackbear

“I have met so many new friends this summer, it is so cool because I look forward to seeing them again all year, which is why the summer is so great! Oh, and I can’t forget about Campfire Night, playing the camp-wide game and roasting s’mores by the campfire!” ~ Ally Webb, 2016 Viking

Our Dynamic Fair Acres Summer Camp Team

Thursday, Aug. 4th 2016

“I said a BOOM CHIKKA BOOM,” sings Gabe Rourke, one of our most energetic counselors at Fair Acres, to kick off one of our first circles during Session 3 with a bang! I continued to hear those same lyrics sung by our campers for the rest of the week, it was AWESOME!

I cannot believe we are already half way through the summer, and moving forward our goal at camp is to make every camp day better than the last, which starts with our amazing staff. All of our fantastic counselors were selected from a pool of highly qualified candidates and went through a comprehensive orientation and training process. We were happy to welcome back some of our counselors from last summer, including Nathaniel, Maranda, and Kylie, who are bubbly, caring, energetic, and very silly. We were also delighted to bring on some new members of our Fair Acres team, Matt and Clair, who were, I dare to say, more excited for camp then our campers! And that is a statement I do not take lightly.

During the off-camp season our counselors are in schools all over the country, from San Diego State in California, High Point University in North Carolina, to the University in Chicago in Illinois – and, also right here in our neck of the woods, at Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Our staff are members of Division I rowing teams, varsity ice hockey players, and even counselors that have been drafted for their skills on the court! We have quite the dynamic team here and we are so excited to share their amazing experiences and excitement with your campers! Let’s gets ready for another great week!

All the best,

Fair Acres Camp Director
